Display to honor Hispanic veterans
By NICK KOWALCZYK
The Kansas City Star

After David Muro came back to Kansas City from the Korean War, the former U.S. Marine tried wearing his uniform when he went out to dinner.

Expecting a good meal, Muro was instead turned away. Some restaurants wouldn't serve a Mexican customer, Muro said, even one in military dress.

Muro, 69, has not forgotten the bigotry he faced. Now he is involved in a Hispanic veterans group that educates people about Hispanic contributions to America's history.
